Keep reading for 3 Tips for Managing Imposter Syndrome.
What is Imposter Syndrome?
This time last year I was formulating the idea to blend my wellness coaching background with my former years in corporate marketing. My vision was to create a branding and social media consulting agency for wellness brands, coaches, start ups, and small biz. During this building process, imposter syndrome almost got the best of me. My feelings of self doubt are similar to about 70% of the population that also struggle from it. Typically, imposter syndrome is experienced by people who are hard workers, high achievers and perfectionists.
Even with solid years of expertise and success, many of us feel like we “got here” by luck or that we need more of this or that to “be enough” for the position, opportunity etc. I’m glad to be on the other side of those feelings and doing what I love while helping others. To ensure you get better at managing this also, here are some tips from Cleveland Clinic that helped me overcome imposter syndrome:
3 Tips for Managing Imposter Syndrome
1. Separate facts from feelings. The fact is you’re experienced in x,y,z so remind yourself of that when you’re feeling doubtful about successes and opportunities.
2. Take note of your accomplishments. Save client testimonials, successful projects, and great reviews from your managers or team. Hang them on your refrigerator like you did when you were little and got all A’s on your report card!
3. Avoid the comparison game. Focusing on your own achievements will keep instilling in you that you deserve to be where you are, that you are not fraud, and that you will continue to be successful in all that you do.
