Today, National Relaxation Day, is all about taking a pause from our everyday stressors and focusing on ourselves. When I think about how busy my life is in a week’s time, I am lucky to have time for a nice tea at night or to read a good book before bed. These are some of my small ways to get in relaxation time.
This special holiday was founded by a fourth grader back in 1985. This little 9 year old was onto something….stress can make us sick and unhealthy if we don’t take the time we need to focus on chilling out. Unfortunately, not all of us can just take off fully on National Relaxation Day. We can, however, plan out small moments even while at work though to incorporate moments of peace in our day.
Here are 4 approaches that can help:
- 10 minutes of listening to soothing sounds. My favorite go-to is an app called Calm, it is free and you can access about 20 different sounds like Ocean Waves, Pouring Rain, Fiereplace, etc.
- 5 minutes of stretching really helps to release tension in your body. Just touching your toes and raising your arms above your head and bending side-to-side goes am long way to taking time to recover your body from stress you may be experiencing st your desk.
- Take a long walk on your lunch break. One of my favorite things is to put on some hits from the 80s and find pleasure in moving my legs and singing along. This is probably my favorite stress buster from work!
- Eating a nice meal. There is something to be said about good food being the elixir to life. What pleasure do we take in a juicy piece of fruit or a nice glass of wine with pasta. A great plate truly brings about a sense of happiness.
After National Relaxation Day ends, how else can we continue to incorporate relaxing moments into our lives? How can we prolong the feelings of peacefulness and tranquility?
One strong recommendation I have is to set aside time for a wellness retreat focusing on recovery. Join me on a soulful getaway I have planned for Sedona, Arizona in September. Sedona has something for everyone including the outdoor enthusiast, the spiritual seeker, the art lover, the foodie, and the adventurous soul. There is a wonderful array of nature walks and trails, farm-to-table local restaurants, New Age options, and of course the most magnificent views- all of which offer time to heal, reconnect your mind-body-spirit, and just have a wonderful time away from city life. Here are some convincing reasons to look into it.
I would love your feedback on how you go about relaxing and what your experiences with retreats have been!
XOXO,
Natasha
