I always make a list before I go grocery shopping… and sometimes I even remember to bring it with me. Wink wink. I have been so into Instacart delivery lately that when I decided to grocery shop in-person this time, I had to quickly recall certain rules in the store. Do you follow these rules too? Here are Grocery Shopping Rules from a Nutrition Coach – i.e. me – that I think you’ll find very helpful.
- Have a snack first (you know that saying about shopping hungry…come on guys) • avoid the middle aisles (that’s processed sugar’s best friend)
- Don’t buy in bulk (the more you have the more you overeat)
- For produce/meat/dairy, always reach for the back of the shelves (the newer is behind/the older is towards the front)
- It’s ok to hit up another store too (I’ll have a mix of Whole Foods/Bristol Farms/Sprouts all in one shopping trip)… now you see why I prefer @instacart Delivery
- For goodness sake, avoid shopping on a Sunday afternoon (it is the most crowded time at any grocery store)
Grocery stores can be tricky spots, but they don’t have to be that way. The more you can stick to your desired game plan of the items you initially listed, the less likely you are to bulk or impulse buy based off emotions, not off of your body’s true needs. Follow these 5 Grocery Shopping Rules from a Nutrition Coach as best you can and you will find your bank account fuller, your weight lighter, and your overall health a heck of a lot better.
Mindful Monday in full effect while grocery shopping!
XOXO,
