What is the most important part of any business? If you guessed it’s the customers then you guessed right. There are no sales without someone buying. Let’s talk about this crucial Branding Basic: 3 Ways to Identify your Ideal Client. ✨
I get a lot of pushback from clients when we discuss creating a niche for their ideal audience. I get it, we all want to help everybody. But the thing is general messages don’t work. When I first starting working as a coach, I wanted to help everyone that I could, because I had this fear that my messaging would alienate certain groups and cost me potential income. Now I realize how important it is to look at the gain, not the loss. By getting specific, I’m a magnet to the people who feel the most “seen and heard” and that isn’t possible when you are trying to adapt for everyone. You end up creating messages for no one.
The more specific you are on who you can best help, the easier it is to create your content and get your messages to your most important person or group. There are key questions that can be answered when you are building out your ideal client. Remember, generic doesn’t capture anyone’s attention so don’t be afraid to make specific choices here.
Here are 3 Ways to Identify Your Ideal Client:
- Think about who this person is and what they like to do. What are their habits? Where can you find them? Maybe they are someone who loves working in coffee shops. Their favorite pastimes are cooking at home and enjoying wine. If they kids, they enjoy their games and hosting parties. Do you see where I am going with this? It becomes easier to visualize this person and strategize how to connect with then.
- What are the goals of your ideal client? Knowing what your client is aspiring for will help you design a strong communication. strategy. If you are a health coach, does your ideal client struggle with sleep? You could strategize a whole a social media content campaign around sleep coaching programs and how they connect with weight loss and better energy. Right there, the possibility of new clientele expands.
- Who would you like to work with? In order to keep your momentum going with content marketing and future strategies, it’s important you are excited about with whom you are working. As a brand consultant, I am most excited about working with health and lifestyle start-ups, coaches, and small businesses. So I have learned to tailor my informational content to target them. Think about the demographic you want to work. Remember, in order to keep your business sustainable, a large part of this is being excited about who you work with.
